However, by explaining away Lecter's dark psyche through a standard revenge plot, the film risks demystifying the very ambiguity that made the character so iconic in the first place.
While "Hannibal Rising" features solid cinematography and rich period set design, it falls short of the psychological brilliance established by its predecessors. By framing Lecter's cannibalistic turn as a tragic reaction to war atrocities, it delivers an entertaining yet relatively conventional period thriller rather than a deeply chilling psychological masterclass.
